Quad City Challenger
USA Part 103 Buyer’s GuideQuad City Aircraft
Four thousand kits. Wheels, floats, amphibs, or skis. The Challenger is one of the most-produced ultralights ever built, and it carries the broadest gear matrix in the category. Only the single-seat Challenger 103 is Part 103. The famous two-seater is not.
800+PART 103 UNITS FLYING BY 2011
Out of 4,000-plus Challenger kits sold worldwide. The fleet history here is deeper than almost anything else in the guide, and the parts and the owner community reflect that.

What it can and cannot do
The capability table.
Yes published as standard · Optional factory option or variant · No not available. This is the broadest option matrix in the guide, which is the point and the risk.
The lineup
One Part 103 Challenger.
Also sold as the Challenger I. Quick-build kit, single completion tier. The Hirth F-33 is the engine that keeps it Part 103 legal. Wheels, floats, amphibs, or skis under it.
The Challenger II is not Part 103
It is two-seat, it is the more popular aircraft, and it is what most people picture when they hear Challenger. Two seats means it is not an ultralight. Make sure you and the factory are talking about the single.
The option list is where this gets away from you
Amphibs, an enclosed cockpit, and folding wings are all on the menu, and they all weigh something. The broadest option matrix in Part 103 is also the easiest way to build yourself out of the category. Track it with the factory.
Who it suits
- Buyers who want tens of thousands of hours of proven fleet time behind the design.
- Pilots who want floats or skis as a factory option rather than a science project.
- Anyone planning amphibious or ski operations, which almost nobody else here supports properly.
- Owners who want parts to still exist in fifteen years.
What you give up
- Only the single-seat is Part 103. The aircraft the brand is famous for is not.
- The broad option list means you have to think hard about weight, every time.
- Pricing is a quote, not a sheet.
- No email published. Reaching them takes direct outreach to the factory.

Part 103 compliance is yours
An aircraft marketed as Part 103 capable can exceed the 254 lb powered empty-weight limit once engines, instruments, and options are added. With this many options on the table, that is a live risk rather than a formality. You weigh the finished vehicle and you confirm compliance with 14 CFR 103 before you fly it. See the Part 103 disclaimer.
